You are not alone, and you still have the right to choose what is best for you and your child.

Considering creating an adoption plan is never easy. It is a decision that is rooted in love, selflessness and a desire to give your child the best opportunities for growth and success. But what happens when the people closest to you (your parents, partner, or other family members) do not understand or support your decision?
If you are feeling divided between your heart and the opinions of those closest to you, please know that you are not alone and your voice matters.
In this blog, we’ll talk about why some families struggle to understand and accept adoption, ways to navigate unsupportive loved ones and–most notably–how to stay strong & true to yourself. This is your journey, your child and your decision.
Considering Adoption
Considering adoption is a deeply personal journey that involves a lot of reflection, research, and a great deal of emotional work. This internal work is not often seen by family or friends not intimately involved in the process, which can lead to misunderstanding and lack of support.
Why Others Might Struggle With Your Decision
People might struggle with your decision for any number of reasons. Some might not understand that adoption and openness has evolved greatly over the past years and that adoption looks vastly different than it did in the past. Others may be reacting with fear, grief of their own or cultural beliefs discouraging adoption. It is okay for your family and friends to have their own emotions and thoughts, but it is not okay for anyone to shame or pressure you one way or the other. Their feelings can be valid, but so are yours. You are the only one carrying this pregnancy and thinking about your child’s future every day, meaning that you are the only one who can decide what is in you and your child’s best interest.
