Identified Adoptions

An identified adoption is one where the adoptive parents and matched birth family engage the agency together so that the agency may provide counseling for both parties and legal adoption preparation for the adoptive parents.

Identified Adoptions & Your Rights

In order to secure that everyone’s rights are protected, it is important that all parties are respected and provided full information about the adoption process which includes options counseling for the birth parent(s) and counseling support after placement as well. The agency is also equipped to take legal surrenders to the adoption.

In most states, private non-agency adoptions have revocation periods which are much longer than licensed agencies with regard to birth parent surrenders. This can cause unnecessary stress to all parties. Let Adoption ARC be your intermediary in your adoption and make sure that the process is fully legal and ethical.

Public vs. Private Agency Adoption

When opting for an adoption process facilitated by an agency, parents, both birth and adoptive, have a choice of two avenues: public or private. Either way, parents involved should select an agency that make all of their parenting needs the highest priority.

Parents With Adopted Child

Public Agency Adoption

Public agency adoption agencies are government-run institutes. These agencies usually run the foster care system in their areas. Public agencies usually are unable to provide counseling services to either the birth mother or adoptive parents. Public agency workers have many cases and often cannot provide post placement counseling services and it may take several days to get in touch with a social worker.

Due to the complexities of the legal process involved in the adoption process, prospective parents would be advised to employ an attorney to assist them. Public agencies do not allow birth parents choice on who will adopt a child or where the child will be placed. They also do not act as the go-between for birth or adoptive parents. Children within the public agency system can be moved from one foster home to another without any parental consent.

Adoption can be stressful for all parties involved. Working with a licensed adoption agency such as Adoption ARC ensures all legal and personal support for all in the Adoption Triad is carefully handled.

When using an adoption agency for an identified adoption, the following essential needs can be alleviated for you:

Let the experts at Adoption ARC with almost 30 years of experience manage this vital relationship.

Working with Adoption ARC will ensure that the surrender documents are handled ethically, legally and appropriately. Every document is read out loud to ensure a full understanding. When the surrenders are signed more than 72 hours after birth, they are full, final and irrevocable. This allows the birth parent to have closure in regard to the process.

Private Agency Adoption

Private agencies go through extensive accreditation before they can be licensed

They must complete and maintain their certification in each state they serve. These agencies can provide a full range of services for all members of the adoption triad; birth parents, adoptees and adoptive parents.

In addition, legal assistance and parenting classes may be provided to the adoptive parents as well as specialized counseling for birth mothers. Studies have shown birth mothers who receive prenatal counseling feel more comfortable and secure of their placement decision. Private agencies will also perform an extensive screening process in order to provide the best adoptive parents for the child.

Adoptive Family With Counselor

When considering where to place a child the private agency will follow the preferences of all parents, including factors such as:

  • Desire for an open, closed or semi-open adoption
  • Specific Needs and Characteristics of the Baby
  • Religion and/or marital status of the prospective adoptive family
  • Any other factor that is important to the birth parents

At Adoption ARC, you will find a licensed and accredited non-profit child welfare agency who has been bringing families together for over 25 years. We believe that adoption is a lifelong and continual process.
