Wow, that was a mouthful! If you are planning to write a baby name book, I think that we have given you some good suggestions. You may be interested in some statistical information from our placements. Out of the 51 children that we placed, 12 were Caucasian; 7 were Hispanic ; 2 were Asian; 1 was Biracial and 29 were African American. We participated in the identified adoption placements of five children which means that the birth parents and the adoptive parents were matched and came to us for legal and social work services. We assisted in the placement of three older children through the states of Virginia and Washington and we placed three severely special needs children. Less than 10 percent of the children were prenatally exposed to drugs or alcohol. Thirteen of our children went to live abroad in Canada, Germany or the Netherlands. I just thought you'd be interested to know how multicultural and multifaceted of an agency we have become.

REUNIONS:
ARC has been reunifying families around the globe this year. Actually, I can only take credit for the Philadelphia Reunion. With the great help of Grace Loyd and Tess Headen, I was proud to be a part of ARC's second annual family reunion. It was held on August 17, 2002 in our building's backyard. We had cotton candy, ice cones, popcorn, soul food, lots of drinks and a clown and disc jockey along with the moon bounce machine. It was a great hit! We had about 25-30 of our families from the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware areas. It was a hot Philadelphia summer day, but I know that we all had a wonderful time reconnecting with old friends and some new ones. We hope to see you at the next one!
Once again, as every year, Dr. Peter Franz held his annual reunion for the German families in May, 2002. As usual, it was a big success with over 20 ARC families in attendance! Many of the families keep in touch with each other during the year as well at play groups and social functions. Thanks for keeping us all connected, Peter!
This year on March 13, 2002, the Dutch families will meet for their first-ever reunion. It will be coordinated by Ed and Gerie Mantel, ARC's very first Dutch family. Presently, ARC has 15 Dutch families who have adopted children. This will be a great opportunity for folks to meet and mingle and share the experiences that they have had being first -time parents and/or being multiracial families. Thank you to Ed for facilitating this all-important event! I hope to get some great photos, and maybe even to come one year!
