UPCOMING ADOPTIVE PARENT TRAINING

On Saturday, May 31, 2003, Adoption ARC will be holding a day-long mandatory adoptive parent training for prospective families in West Philadelphia. This promises to be an action-packed day, which will lead off with a Birth Parent Panel, featuring ARC birth parents of different races and cultures who have placed with the agency over the past nine years. There will be a question and answer session to follow this workshop. Later in the day, some of ARC's adoptive parents will lead a panel to answer many questions which prospective parents may have as they wait for their precious arrival.

ARC social work supervisor, Grace Loyd, and social workers, Tene' Howard and Erin McGloin, will speak about birth parent counseling, openness in adoption, and ongoing relationships between birth and adoptive families. ARC consultant, Anne Rice, will deliver a session on transracial adoption, and ARC office manager, Tesemma Headen, will enlighten families on the administrative paperwork which is mandatory in adoption. ARC Executive Director, Tara Gutterman, will teach a class regarding the legal process of adoption.

ARC will host a luncheon and have childcare available. If there are any prospective local (Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware) prospective families whom you feel may be interested in registering for this training, please contact the agency.
