Tara E. Gutterman, Esq.

Tara is Adoption ARC's co-founder and executive director. She began her career as an attorney with the City of Philadelphia Law Department, where she handled hundreds of child abuse and neglect cases and many termination of parental rights hearings. Later, she worked for a private, nonprofit adoption agency in Philadelphia, encountering the range of issues she now confronts at Adoption ARC, while specializing in termination-of-parental-rights hearings and adoption finalizations.

Ms. Gutterman is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association. She volunteers her time as a "big sister" and handles several pro bono child abuse and neglect cases yearly. She is a licensed arbitrator with the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia, and is certified to practice law in the dependency/juvenile court system. She is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Ms. Gutterman is a volunteer with the Volunteer Indigent Program and has taught a class on termination of parental rights and adoption. She has also volunteered her time in the domestic-abuse section of Philadelphia Family Court, and is active in the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association. She is a 1988 graduate of Bryn Mawr College, with a major in English and a minor in Spanish, and graduated from Temple University School of Law in 1991.
